Me Me Me

Time to learn a little bit about me! I got this idea from Jennifer @ Perfectly Imperfect

I am... Katie, a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and teacher

I want... to get down to my pre-baby weight in the next two months

I have... a beautiful daughter, Kaylee Joy and a crazy sweet dog JoJo

I wish... my sweet grandma could have met baby Kaylee

I hate... thunderstorms and tornado warnings

I fear... roaches!

I hear... time flies when your having fun, starting to realize that as i grow older

I search... Facebook way too often.....

I wonder... what Kaylee will look like and act like as she grows up!

I regret... some sarcastic remarks that I make to others

I love... being a mommy!

I never... thought I would go to graduate school, especially twice! Glad I did but more glad to be finished :)

I ache... because I just had a baby :(

I always... eat breakfast

I usually... go to bed around 10

I am not... fond of cleaning, glad my hubby is!

I dance... never because i feel silly

I sing... all the time in the car and with the jingles on commercials

I sometimes... eat too many sweets

I cry... hardly ever

I am not always... serious, i joke around a lot

I lose...hardly anything, i am pretty good at keeping up with my stuff

I am confused... as to why Kaylee cries sometimes

I need... to get better at cooking dinner

I should... start scrapbooking Kaylee's little life :)

Tummy Time with Kaylee

Kaylee had her first experience with tummy time this afternoon. She did pretty well after she got over her initial, "I want to go to sleep b/c I love being on my tummy phase." Can't wait to practice each day and see her get stronger!

Before i turned her over :)

Right after I turned her over, silly girl tries to take a nap!
Not sure about this mommy.....
Not really trying.....
Kind of lifting!
Trying! (Check out my cute hair)
Taking a break :)
There she goes!
Yay!

Not bad for her first attempt! Hopefully we will see progress the more and more we try!

June Trip to the Lake!

We headed to the family lake house yesterday. Kaylee and I enjoyed indoor time in a new place while Daddy got to go swimming and out on the boat! Here are a couple of shots from her first trip to the lake.

Kaylee's 1st Bath

When we went to the pediatrician yesterday and she got the umbilical cord off our baby's belly button, we were so excited that Kaylee could now have a real bath! Kaylee only cried at the start, once we got going she was fine. She again loved looking at herself in the mirror and she looked adorable with her froggie towel when we got all finished :)

Checking herself out!

Cutie!

All clean and happy!

1st Well-Baby Check-Up!

Kaylee went to the doctor for the first time today and she was a great baby! She enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror when she was laying on the patient table. She now weighs 7lbs 12ozs, 2 whole ounces more than at birth! Good girl :) Her umbilical cord was just about off, so her doctor went ahead and got it off and cleaned up her little belly button. Looks nice to see that cord gone! Everything checked out great, now we go back at 2 months for those pesky first round of shots :(

My Header!

I just got done experimenting with my header. I have always wanted a cute picture header but wasn't sure how to do it. Well, I googled how, found a friendly blogger that taught me how, and discovered Picnik, a very cool picture site! It is not an over the top header, but hey it is my first one with pictures so I think it looks pretty good!

I'm Loving having Eric home with us, next week will be hard when he goes back to work!

I'm Loving that Kaylee is a happy baby for the most part :)

I'm Loving getting to take naps when my baby girl takes naps! Helps with the lack of consecutive sleep at night.

I'm Loving when Kaylee gets to meet new people. She loves visitors!

Fun Friday!

Linking up for Fun Friday with Jen for the first time! I am loving trying all these new link ups!
This weekend is our first official weekend as parents!

Today, Kaylee had two visitors (two of my awesome co-workers). They just loved on her and she loved back. They brought us one of our favorite dinners, Papa Murphy's pizza, yummy!

Tomorrow night, Kaylee's two aunts will be coming over to celebrate her "one week" birthday. Silly Aunt Paula and Auntie Em! Kaylee is excited about her visitors and we are excited about having company.

Sunday is Father's Day! We already celebrated with my daddy so now we get to celebrate with Eric's dad and Eric himself b/c he is a daddy! A proud daddy too :)

Reading!

I've linked up for Book Club Friday!

Typically when I am teaching, I do not read for enjoyment very often. Plus, I just finished up grad school so I was always reading what I HAD to read. Now that it is summer and I am finished furthering my education, I can read for fun again!

Here is my current book:

My sister recommended the author Kristin Hannah after she read her book FireFly Lane. So I went to our local library and found this one. This book is about an Italian family that runs a restaurant in a small town in Oregon. The father has recently passed away and the restaurant is not doing so well. So, Angie comes home to help out her mom and two sisters with the restaurant. They are reluctant to change at first, but they come around. Angie is also going through a divorce and trying to find happiness again. Enough info but the story line is very good. I am definitely into the book and look forward to reading more by Kristin Hannah!

Thankful Thursday!

I've linked up for the second or so time :) Proud of myself!

I am thankful for the healthy pregnancy that I have had. Kaylee Joy has given me no complications throughout the past 40 weeks, and I hope that remains true this weekend during her induction :)
I am thankful for the rest I have had to prepare for Kaylee's arrival. Since the school year ended, I have been able to take it easy for the past two weeks!

I am thankful for my sweet and crazy puppy dog! Can't wait to see how our 3 year old JoJo adapts to being a big brother :)

Due Date

Well, today is the day that Kaylee Joy was originally set to enter our world. However, she must be stubborn like her mama b/c she doesn't seem to want to come out of my belly :) When my doctor and other people told me how first babies were often late, I thought oh no not me I will have this baby at least a few days early. Nope! Tomorrow is my mom's birthday, June 9th, so it would be super special if Kaylee Joy decided to come tomorrow. She could share a birthday with her Nana! If not looks like Kaylee will be here by 6-11-11 and we can still celebrate their birthdays together since they will be very close to one another. I have an induction set up for 6:00 am Saturday morning if she doesn't arrive before then!

Memommy :)

The world has lost the sweetest lady I have ever met today. My grandmother, aka Memommy.
I have so many wonderful memories of all the time I have spent with Memommy. I could go on and on and on talking about how amazing a person she was. My all time favorite memories would have to be all the Sunday afternoons we spent together in my early childhood when my grandparents lived on Cherry Road. We would always go to their house after church with our brown grocery sacks filled with our play clothes. I loved the little things that we did each week, like changing my clothes in my grandparents bedroom or eating lunch on the green picnic table. The best part of the afternoon came when we went shopping. I was always Memommy's helper. The mission: always find the best or perfect purse. How you may ask? Well, Memommy had a certain criteria for her purses. A certain amount of pockets, zippers, snaps, the color, and definitely the length of the strap. I remember thinking that I was a big help to her, not sure if I really was or not, but I have fond memories to keep forever. I also remember watching my siblings and family members play croquet while I sat with Memo in the front yard. I loved being with her.

I also have a million memories from Navarre Beach, FL. We used to take family vacations there twice a year at 4th of July and Thanksgiving. I used to love waiting for my grandparents to arrive in the lobby, loved having Memommy feed me and Paula Grandaddy's sugar cubes for his coffee, going to Salty the bird's birthday parties (memo always loved the cake) and just loved walking around/sitting on the mezzanine with her people watching especially "speedo" man :)

Memommy was a great fan of my softball years. I remember her always saying how it made her scared when I would pitch and that she couldn't watch, but she came to so many games.

As I grew older and my grandparents moved out to G-Town, our Sunday traditions did not continue but we made new memories especially when I started college and we began to have almost weekly lunches at my grandparent's house. Memommy always knew exactly what to feed you, simple lunch foods but of course we would have dessert. Memo and I had the love for desserts thing in common. I swear it is hereditary :) Lunch at the grandparents wasn't an eat and run event. Typically, I would go over at 1 and not leave until around 4. I loved spending that time with them, talking about what was currently going on in my life or reminiscing about the past.

Once I started teaching, my lunch dates became more and more rare, but I would always attempt to get by there on my holiday breaks. I did manage to talk to my grandmother almost every day. I am so glad that I took the time to call her each day. My drive home from work is about 30 minutes so I would call Memommy to tell her about my day as I drove home (using my speakerphone to be a little on the safe side). I looked forward to those conversations each day. If I had a bad day, I could tell her about it, if something funny happened, I could tell her about it. She could also keep me up to date with her and grandaddy. We had a special relationship and I could tell Memommy anything and everything and she would just listen. She would put in her opinion or comments, but I think she enjoyed how I guess "blunt" I am. She always knew exactly how I felt about stuff.

My last lunch with Memommy and Grandaddy was on my spring break in March. Never thought it would be my last with the both of them. It was a special lunch though b/c after we ate we watched the DVD that I have of little Kaylee Joy's ultrasounds. Memommy was so amazed and so excited about her great granddaughter coming into this world. I believe Memommy was the most excited about Kaylee Joy being born. Maybe even more than me. She wanted nothing more than to be able to see and hold her great granddaughter. She was even the first family member I told that I was pregnant. Kaylee Joy's name is going to be even more special to me now that she shares the middle name of her late great grandmother.

One of my favorite things about Memommy was her use of the word "darling" and her "southern twang." Memommy could make the word "darling" fit into just about any sentence whether she was calling me darling or calling a particular item darling. It was just darling to hear it :) Always made me smile! Memommy had the cutest southern accent I have ever heard. I always laughed with her about it and tried to talk like her but I just couldn't do it. I always liked it when my mom would try to talk like her mom when they were around each other. Mama could totally do it, but I guess that is b/c she grew up around her and kinda developed it herself.

Memommy you will be extremely missed. I know you will be looking down on me making sure Kaylee Joy enters this world safely and watching as she grows :) Love you with all of my heart!

Baking Fun!

Emily and I had a random baking date tonight while we watched the WCWS. Emily has been reading these mystery series books by Joanne Fluke for a few years, and I typically read them after she does. Well, the books are all centered on desserts b/c the main character owns her own cookie shop called The Cookie Jar. The book always has recipes in it that the main character "makes and sells" in her shop. Well, we tested two of the recipes tonight. One was called "Mini Macs" and the other called "Chocolate Euphoria Cookie Bars." Here are some pics:
The Bakers :O)
Actually tasty for a coconut cookie! Emily and I used 3 different types of chocolate chips to give it more of a chocolatey taste. I like them and I don't care much for coconut :)
Chocolate Euphoria Cookie Bars
Very tasty but messy. Didn't turn out like "bars" like it should have. Em loved the crusty buttery chocolate part

Can you find the ingredient stuck to JoJo's fur?

39 Weeks

Today I am 39 weeks pregnant. One week officially left until Kaylee Joy's due date. Just playing the waiting game now to see when she wants to join our world :)

Old Fashioned Monte Cristo

Yesterday, I went to The Half Shell for the second time in my life. I ordered the same item that I ordered last summer, The Old Fashioned Monte Cristo.

Here is the description from the menu:
Pit smoked ham, Hickory smoked turkey and sliced provolone, egg-battered and fried golden. Dusted with powdered sugar and served with honey mustard sauce for dipping.

Yes, it does say dusted with powdered sugar. It is sooooo good!

This is a picture of a Monte Cristo sandwich i found online. Not the exact same as the one at The Half Shell, but it looks very similar. My favorite part of The Half Shell one is the honey mustard dipping sauce. I don't know who created this lovely sandwich but they deserve an award!
